The Digital Millennium Copyright (Holders) Act

Abstract

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was a modification to the Copyright Act of 1976 that was implemented in 1998 in the United States. With the enactment of the DMCA, the United States saw a transferring of power within the realm of copyright to the copyright holder. The copyright holder was able to gain power because of the changes made to fair use, and digital encryption. These changes have a significant impact upon the library world, especially libraries that deal with digital items.
